Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the things people wonder about most

The first session is about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask some questions about what brought you in, your history, and what you are hoping to get from therapy. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels right. There is no test to pass and no wrong answers. Our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and that we are a good fit.

Individual sessions are typically 50-55 minutes. Couples sessions may run 75 to 80 minutes depending on what is being worked through. EMDR Intensive sessions are half-day appointments lasting 2 to 4 hours, designed for deeper, more concentrated trauma processing. Session length can be discussed during your initial consultation.

EMDR Intensives are extended therapy sessions lasting 2 to 4 hours, designed to accelerate the trauma processing that would typically unfold over many weeks of traditional weekly appointments. By dedicating a half-day to sustained, focused work, clients often experience meaningful breakthroughs in a compressed timeframe. This format is particularly well-suited for those who want concentrated progress without stretching the process across months. Whether an Intensive is appropriate for your situation will be discussed during your consultation.

Yes. We offer secure telehealth sessions for clients located anywhere in California or Michigan. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection. Many clients find telehealth more convenient and research supports their efficacy is comparable to in-person sessions. That said telehealth may not be the right fit for you individually. At this time we are offering telehealth only for Individual Therapy ( EMDR Intensives are able to be done in person or virtually), though this may change in the future.

Yes. Our therapists are licensed to see clients in both California and Michigan.

EMDR involves briefly focusing on a difficult memory while following guided eye movements or tapping. Most people describe it as intense but manageable, and many notice a meaningful shift in how the memory feels after just a few sessions. Your therapist walks you through every step so you know exactly what to expect.

The most important factor in therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. If you feel heard, safe, and respected, that is a strong indicator. We encourage a brief consultation before committing so you and your therapist can both get a sense of whether it feels like the right match.

We are a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance. However, we provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients find this process straightforward.

A superbill is a detailed receipt for therapy services that includes the information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan, and we recommend checking with your insurance provider about your out-of-network benefits.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to establish rhythm and stability. As insight deepens and capacity strengthens, sessions naturally space out—biweekly or monthly—so the work lives beyond the therapy room. Our aim is not dependence, but resilience: support when the terrain is rough, and confidence to move forward on your own.

We kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. We understand that life is unpredictable, and we offer two courtesy late cancellations or no-shows per calendar year in recognition that illness, emergencies, and human moments happen. After these have been used, appointments canceled within 48 hours are billed at half the session fee, and missed appointments without notice are billed at the full fee.

Absolutely. Many of our clients are coming to therapy for the first time. There is no wrong way to begin. You do not need to have everything figured out before your first session. That is what we are here to do together.

Text is the preferred method of contact. You can also reach out through the contact form on this website or by email. We do our best to respond within one business day.
